 1. Describe three strengths of your work.

I believe that I am good at finding interesting compositions and locations. I love to explore in the summers, and my friends are great people to drag with me. If we see an interesting location we both get excited to pull over and take photos.

This summer my friend Lexi rescued a baby Starling, and as we were coming back from bringing it to a rehabilitation center, we found a construction site that had mountains of sand they were digging out. The textures and height of the sand made for a surreal location that took us out of New Hampshire for a moment.

Above is another scene that I would have never found if my friend Juile and I didn't pull over and run around a random street to find.

Shooting in manual and on film cameras has made shooting more efficient. I have also noticed my photos need less post-editing.

Film has taught me to be patient, slow down, and appreciate what I am taking photos of. Before school, I would take a month to fill up a roll, being almost too selective with my shots, but the process was extremely rewarding.

2. Describe three things that you need to work on.

Directing models and making them feel comfortable. Learning how to communicate my ideas to them as well.

Taking the time to get my tripod and gear out on my walks. My R6 is great but I forget that shooting at night time would be much easier with slower shutter speeds.

Here is a before-and-after example of a setting that would be much less noisy with a tripod.

I physically do not go out much to take photos, for many reasons, but it is something I have been working on.

3. Three things you want to accomplish this semester?

I want to make prints of new and old work, I have always wanted to see my old work on something other than a screen.

I would like to promote myself better and start to build a tighter portfolio.

I want to incorporate more surrealism into my photography, through experimental practices, lighting, and/or editing. I like not knowing where the photo is or if it was edited.

4. What holds me back?

self-doubt is a large factor, there are so many talented photographers and while it motivates me at times, it becomes a daunting reminder at others.

My health is another factor. I want to go out more but have little energy and am unable to walk long distances.

I do other forms of art, and I really want to begin to mix them, but it has proved to be difficult and I have yet to take a leap because of time and research. This in turn takes away from my time with photography.

Here is my limited work mixing drawing and photography. I enjoy using the photos as jumping grounds for my ideas of what to draw, and wish to paint over prints in the future.
