Time of Day/Type of Light Project

 Final Selects

For this project, I tried to focus on how light affects forms and textures, and found that shooting during golden hour really helped my photos. I tend to stay melancholic with my photography, and feel that the warmth brings a comforting aspect to my images.

I did enjoy the 'no cropping' aspect as it made me more thoughtful of where to stand and what lens to use. Being mindful during a shoot is important to me, as I tend to get into a flow easier, and find better compositions when I am out. To do this I usually find a location that I can just explore without distraction. Coastal New England turns into a semi-ghost town during the cold season, and this really let me take my time and set up in areas that I normally couldn't in the summer.

I was really happy to hear that people thought my photos were poetic, as I really do love storytelling and finding shots that make you linger. I find that I try to be different a lot, and it can come off as cheesy extremely easily. I have been trying to close that gap and find stories that I enjoy in the world around me, and try to put my stylistic spin on that instead. I am not doing entirely away with scripting my scenes, but want to try and use the landscape more to my advantage. An artist who inspired this is Viki Kollerová. She is known for mixing human and natural forms. She lets the figure become part of the landscape. The balance in her photos makes the human figure almost dissappear into the scene, by learning from and imitating nature.

With that being said, my final project ideas are very studio-esque. I want to make a composite of many figures on the same couch. I plan to get rid of recognizable features, but still be able to make out human features. I want to branch out and find ways to tell my stories indirectly along with this.
